Not very well known until recently, but now gaining a growing number of enthusiasts. We are talking about bulletproof coffee, which is becoming very popular, especially among those following a ketogenic diet. It is worth mentioning, however, that nutritionists very rarely recommend it and some even strongly criticise it. So what is bulletproof coffee and does it have an effect on fat loss? It is worth taking a closer look at this topic.

What is bulletproof coffee?

Bulletproof coffee is a drink that combines coffee with oil and butter. Undoubtedly, the combination of coffee and butter is almost unimaginable for many people, however, more and more people are becoming convinced by this drink. Of course, the appearance of butter in coffee is very puzzling and anomalous at the same time. So what is the point of introducing a significant amount of fat into coffee? Supporters of bulletproof coffee argue that it is a guarantee of an excellent source of energy. They also claim that a drink constructed in this way significantly improves concentration and that feelings of hunger are minimised.

Due to its properties, bulletproof coffee has attracted the attention of people following the ketogenic diet, which is based on high-fat foods with the omission, virtually to zero, of carbohydrates. Many claim that bulletproof coffee is very effective, even more so when combined with a high-fat diet. Nutritionists, however, accuse it of having fatal effects on the human body.

Pros and cons of bulletproof coffee

Of course, like all products in the world, bulletproof coffee has its advantages and disadvantages. Without a doubt, among the main advantages of this drink is the fact that it is very filling. People who struggle with excess body fat claim that it is the world's best substitute for high-carbohydrate breakfasts.

Adding oil or butter to coffee provides a huge boost of energy, according to lovers of the drink. Another advantage of this fatty coffee is that it speeds up the metabolism significantly and improves blood circulation and tissue oxygenation. In addition, it stimulates the central nervous system, although this is considered by some to be a disadvantage of bulletproof coffee.

Benefits of coffee bulletproof we already know. It is worth looking a little at the drawbacks of this high-fat drink. The most common ingredients in bulletproof coffee are butter and coconut oil. For our health, this combination is not very beneficial.

Coconut oil contains a significant proportion of saturated fatty acids. And this is where the first problem arises, because according to expert recommendations, only 10% of the daily calorie intake should contain the aforementioned saturated acids. This is because they are highly detrimental to the effects of our body. Nutritionists and healthy eating experts alert that as much as 30% of saturated fatty acids are consumed by the average Pole, so this is far too much. Interestingly, bulletproof coffee is most often consumed by people following a ketogenic diet, which nutritionists and doctors also consider not very beneficial to human health. Achieving ketosis is a lengthy process during which the amount of carbohydrates eaten is reduced to practically zero. Of course, the body then loses weight, however, the body is very emaciated. Diets for athletes or drug-resistant epilepsy in children are the only cases in which the use of this diet has a positive effect and is acceptable.

Bulletproof coffee - where did it come from?

Dave Asprey is the man behind the widespread popularity of high-fat coffees.
